Chania Airport to Georgioupolis transfer prices

Fares are per vehicle, not per person, and cover the whole car, so a family of four pays once. The price you see is the price confirmed on your voucher; it does not change with traffic, time of day, or a delayed flight.

Airport pickup

Your pickup at Chania Airport

Your driver meets you inside the arrivals hall at Chania Airport, holding a sign with your name and the company name on it. Your transfer starts there rather than at a taxi rank, so there is no queue and no fare to agree on the spot.

Chania International Airport (CHQ) sits on the Akrotiri peninsula, on high ground east of the city. Chania International Airport handled 1,574,043 international arrivals in 2025, which makes it the island's second gateway after Heraklion and the natural entry point for western Crete.

The airport's position matters for what happens next. The road down from Akrotiri joins the national road just east of Chania, so Rethymno, Georgioupolis and the whole north coast run east without entering the city, while Platanias, Kissamos and the west coast run through or around it.

Chania Airport is a single-terminal airport, so the walk from baggage reclaim to the meeting point is short even when several flights land together.

Where we meet you

Inside the arrivals hall, at the exit, where your driver waits with a name board.

Look for the board rather than heading for the taxi rank. If your flight arrives late at night, the driver is still there: the pickup is set against the flight, not the schedule.

Flight delays and waiting time

Give us your flight number at booking. Your pickup is scheduled against that flight, and we track it, so a delayed landing moves the pickup rather than costing you the transfer.

Tell us as early as you can when a flight is cancelled or rerouted, so the driver can be reassigned.

Chania

Arriving in Georgioupolis

Georgioupolis is a resort village on the north coast between Rethymno and Chania, built where the Almiros river meets the sea. Georgioupolis is known for the small chapel of Agios Nikolaos, which stands on a rock offshore and is reached by a narrow stone causeway running out from the beach.

The beach runs for several kilometres east of the village and is one of the longest on the island. The sea shelves gently near the river mouth and can be lively further out, which is worth knowing if you are travelling with small children.

The village itself is built around a square shaded by eucalyptus trees, with tavernas around it. Lake Kournas, the only freshwater lake in Crete, lies a few kilometres inland.

Good to know about Georgioupolis
  • The chapel of Agios Nikolaos stands offshore on a rock, reached by a stone causeway
  • Several kilometres of sand run east from the river mouth
  • The village centres on a eucalyptus-shaded square
  • Lake Kournas, Crete's only freshwater lake, is a few kilometres inland
  • Sits midway between Rethymno and Chania on the national road
Drop-off in Georgioupolis

We drop you at the door of your hotel, apartment or villa, in the village or along the beach road east of it.

Some of the accommodation sits on unpaved lanes behind the dunes. The driver takes the vehicle as close as the surface allows and confirms the arrangement in advance.

Route

The drive from Chania Airport to Georgioupolis

The drive begins with the descent from Akrotiri. Chania Airport sits on high ground on the peninsula east of the city, so the first few minutes are spent coming down off it and joining the national road, rather than setting straight out.

Once on the VOAK the route runs east and never enters Chania. It passes above Souda Bay, where the ferry port and the naval base sit below on the right, then climbs away from the water through the hills behind Kalyves and Almyrida. This middle section is inland and green, with the sea out of sight for a stretch.

The road comes back to the coast on the approach to Georgioupolis, dropping towards the mouth of the Almiros river. The final turn leaves the national road for the village, and where you go from there depends on your accommodation: the square and the harbour are ahead, while the long beach road runs east behind the dunes.

About 49 minutes is the normal door-to-door figure. This is a steady run rather than a fast one, because of the descent at the start and the hill section in the middle.

It is also the shortest airport transfer to Georgioupolis by a wide margin, which is the main thing to know if you are still choosing flights. Guests who arrive at Heraklion instead face 103 kilometres and about an hour and a half, on the far side of the island from where they are staying.

How else could you make this trip?

The KTEL intercity bus between Chania and Rethymno stops at Georgioupolis and is inexpensive.

It runs from Chania bus station rather than the airport, so the trip begins with covering the airport-to-city leg. The bus then stops on the national road above the village, leaving fifteen minutes on foot down to the square and considerably more to the hotels along the beach road.

Going home

Georgioupolis to Chania Airport: departure transfers

The return leg is the same journey in reverse: 48.4 km (30.1 mi), about 49 min, and the same fixed fare from €79 per vehicle. Your driver collects you from your accommodation in Georgioupolis at the agreed time and takes you straight to Chania Airport.

Georgioupolis back to Chania Airport is the same 48.4 kilometres in reverse, at the same fixed fare.

The climb back up to Akrotiri at the end is the slowest part of the return, and departure pickups are set with that in mind rather than on the outbound timing.

Book both directions together and the return is held at the same fare. Switch the form at the top of this page to Departure, or select a return when you book.

When should the pickup be?

For a departure from Georgioupolis we work back from your flight: about 49 minutes of driving, plus the check-in and security time your airline asks for, plus a buffer for the Akrotiri climb.

Give us the flight number at booking and the exact pickup time is confirmed on your voucher.

Child seats cost nothing extra. Reserve the seat in the booking form and state the child's age, so the correct seat is fitted before the driver sets off.

Free cancellation

Cancel at least 24 hours before your pickup time and you pay nothing. Plans change; the booking does not lock you in.

The vehicle carries your party and nobody else. It runs from the pickup point to your exact address, with no intermediate stops and no waiting for other passengers.

Flight-timed pickups, 24 hours a day

Your pickup is set against your flight number, not a clock time. Transfers run at any hour, which covers night landings and pre-dawn departures.

Every booking is confirmed by a person and carries a voucher showing your route, vehicle, pickup time and fare.
