Stalos is a resort on the coast immediately west of Chania, the first on the continuous beach strip that runs out towards Platanias. Stalos is split by the coast road into a beach side and an older village that climbs the slope inland, and the two halves are usually described separately when accommodation is booked.
The beach is sand and shingle, sheltered at its eastern end, and it runs without a break into Agia Marina.
Its position, closest of the western resorts to Chania, is what most people choose it for: the city is a short drive rather than an outing, while the strip's bars and crowds are further west.

The drive crosses Akrotiri, passes Chania on the bypass and reaches Stalos at 28.9 kilometres in about 33 minutes. Stalos is the first resort on the western beach strip, so this is the shortest of the transfers to that coast.
The road off the peninsula runs above Souda Bay, then turns west without entering Chania. The city is close on the left for a few minutes and the harbour is never crossed.
Daratsos and Kalamaki follow, filling the ground between the city edge and the resorts. Chrissi Akti and Agioi Apostoloi, the two city beaches, sit below the road on that stretch.
Stalos is entered along the coast road. The resort is split in two by it: the beach side runs down to the sand, and upper Stalos climbs the slope inland, which is the part that decides the last minute or two of the drive.
The city bus from Chania serves Stalos frequently and is the cheapest way here.
