Anissaras is a quiet coastal strip immediately east of Hersonissos, made up almost entirely of hotel complexes set along a low rocky shoreline. Anissaras has no resort centre of its own, which is precisely the point: guests get the coast without the strip, with Hersonissos a few minutes away when they want it.
The shoreline alternates between small sandy inlets and flat rock, and most of the larger hotels have built their own beach areas and swimming platforms. Sunbathing here tends to happen inside the property rather than on a public beach.
Because the area is hotel-led, there is little in the way of independent shops or tavernas within walking distance. Most guests either eat in the hotel or take the short trip into Hersonissos.

There is no resort centre to drive into and no strip to negotiate: the coast road runs past a sequence of gated complexes, each set behind its own long private drive, and the transfer ends at a reception door several hundred metres in from the tarmac.
Serita Beach, Bella Beach, Mitsis Royal Mare and Mitsis Selection Laguna all stand on this stretch, along with Oasis Beach and Paralos Kosta Mare closer to the centre. Every one of them is entered from the coast road and none is reachable on foot from a bus stop with luggage.
The KTEL intercity coach from Rethymno reaches Heraklion's central bus station, and the eastern coastal service continues to Chersonissos.
Anissaras itself has no useful stop: the buses run along the main road above the complexes, which leaves a long walk down a private drive at the end of two coaches and a change. Guests arriving with cases take the car for that reason more than for the time.
