Airport pickup

Your pickup at Heraklion Airport

Your driver meets you inside the arrivals hall at Heraklion Airport, holding a sign with your name on it. Your transfer starts there rather than at a taxi rank, so there is no queue to join and no fare to agree on the spot.

Heraklion International Airport (HER) is Crete's main gateway and handled 4,039,249 international arrivals in 2025. Heraklion International Airport concentrates its arrivals into one short terminal, which keeps the walk from baggage reclaim to the meeting area brief even at peak season.

The driver confirms your name and destination, loads your luggage, and leaves from the airport car park. Nothing is settled on the day when you have paid online, and the fare on your voucher does not change.

The airport sits on the coast road immediately east of Heraklion city, which puts every eastern resort on a direct run without crossing town. Westbound journeys join the same national road in the opposite direction.

Where we meet you

Inside the arrivals hall, past baggage reclaim, at the transfers meeting area. Your driver holds a name sign that matches the booking.

Look for the sign rather than a taxi rank or a car park level. The phone number on your voucher reaches a person who can locate your driver, if the sign is not where you expect it.

Flight delays and waiting time

Give us your flight number at booking. Your pickup is then scheduled against that flight rather than against a clock time, and the driver is told to arrive later when the flight lands late.

Tell us as early as you can when a flight is cancelled or rerouted, so the driver can be reassigned.

Heraklion

Arriving in Anissaras

Anissaras is a quiet coastal strip immediately east of Hersonissos, made up almost entirely of hotel complexes set along a low rocky shoreline. Anissaras has no resort centre of its own, which is precisely the point: guests get the coast without the strip, with Hersonissos a few minutes away when they want it.

The shoreline alternates between small sandy inlets and flat rock, and most of the larger hotels have built their own beach areas and swimming platforms. Sunbathing here tends to happen inside the property rather than on a public beach.

Because the area is hotel-led, there is little in the way of independent shops or tavernas within walking distance. Most guests either eat in the hotel or take the short trip into Hersonissos.

Good to know about Anissaras
  • Almost entirely hotel complexes, with no resort centre
  • Low rocky shoreline broken by small sandy inlets
  • Most hotels have private beach areas and swimming platforms
  • Hersonissos is a few minutes west for shops, tavernas and nightlife
Drop-off in Anissaras

We drop you at your hotel's reception entrance.

The complexes here sit behind long private drives off the coast road. The driver takes the vehicle right up to reception, which matters in Anissaras more than most places because the walk from the road would be a long one.

Route

The drive from Heraklion Airport to Anissaras

The drive runs east on the VOAK, the national road along the north coast, joined directly off the airport perimeter. It is a short run, and the road sits above the sea for most of it.

Anissaras comes up just before Chersonissos, which makes it one of the earlier exits on this coast. You leave the national road and drop towards a shoreline of low rock and small sandy inlets, with the hotel complexes strung along it.

The final approach is unlike the resort runs either side. Anissaras has no centre and no strip: it is a sequence of large properties set back behind their own gates and drives. That matters for the last two minutes, because a drop at the road would leave a long walk up a private approach in the sun. The driver goes to the reception door.

About 22 minutes is the normal figure, making this one of the quicker eastern transfers.

How else could you make this trip?

The KTEL coastal bus passes on the main road above Anissaras on its way between Heraklion and Malia.

It does not serve the airport, and it does not enter the resort. You would reach Heraklion bus station first, then walk in from the main road along the hotel approaches, which are long by design. For a hotel-led area with no shops or centre, that is a poor fit.

At a glance
  • 22.4 km (13.9 mi) door to door
  • About 22 min with normal traffic
  • Direct, no changes, no other passengers
  • Fixed from €36 per vehicle

Anissaras to Heraklion Airport: departure transfers

The return leg is the same journey in reverse: 22.4 km (13.9 mi), about 22 min, and the same fixed fare from €36 per vehicle. Your driver collects you from your accommodation in Anissaras at the agreed time and takes you straight to Heraklion Airport.

Anissaras back to Heraklion Airport is the same 22.4 kilometres in reverse, at the same fixed fare.

When should the pickup be?

For a departure from Anissaras we work back from your flight: about 22 minutes of driving, plus the check-in and security time your airline asks for.

Give us the flight number at booking and the exact pickup time is confirmed on your voucher.

Child seats cost nothing extra. Reserve the seat in the booking form and state the child's age, so the correct seat is fitted before the driver sets off.

Free cancellation

Cancel at least 24 hours before your pickup time and you pay nothing. Plans change; the booking does not lock you in.
