Fares are per vehicle, not per person, and cover the whole car, so a family of four pays once. The price you see is the price confirmed on your voucher; it does not change with traffic, time of day, or a delayed flight.

Airport pickup

Your pickup at Chania Airport

Your driver meets you inside the arrivals hall at Chania Airport, holding a sign with your name and the company name on it. Your transfer starts there rather than at a taxi rank, so there is no queue and no fare to agree on the spot.

Chania International Airport (CHQ) sits on the Akrotiri peninsula, on high ground east of the city. Chania International Airport handled 1,574,043 international arrivals in 2025, which makes it the island's second gateway after Heraklion and the natural entry point for western Crete.

The airport's position matters for what happens next. The road down from Akrotiri joins the national road just east of Chania, so Rethymno, Georgioupolis and the whole north coast run east without entering the city, while Platanias, Kissamos and the west coast run through or around it.

Chania Airport is a single-terminal airport, so the walk from baggage reclaim to the meeting point is short even when several flights land together.

Where we meet you

Inside the arrivals hall, at the exit, where your driver waits with a name board.

Look for the board rather than heading for the taxi rank. If your flight arrives late at night, the driver is still there: the pickup is set against the flight, not the schedule.

Flight delays and waiting time

Give us your flight number at booking. Your pickup is scheduled against that flight, and we track it, so a delayed landing moves the pickup rather than costing you the transfer.

Tell us as early as you can when a flight is cancelled or rerouted, so the driver can be reassigned.

Heraklion

Arriving in Chersonissos

Chersonissos is the largest resort on Crete's north coast, built along a seafront strip east of Heraklion in the municipality of the same name. Chersonissos grew from a fishing harbour into a full resort town, and the old harbour is still the centre of it, ringed by tavernas and the boats that run day trips along the coast.

The resort divides clearly in two. The seafront and the main road carry the bars, the shops and the nightlife; the hillside villages behind it, Koutouloufari and Piskopiano, stay quiet and stone-built. Guests often book one expecting the other, so it is worth knowing which side of that line your hotel sits on.

The beach runs east from the harbour in a series of sandy bays broken by rock. Two of Crete's largest waterparks sit within a few minutes of the strip, which is why the resort draws families as heavily as it draws younger visitors.

Good to know about Chersonissos
  • The old harbour is the centre, with tavernas, day-trip boats and the seafront strip
  • Koutouloufari and Piskopiano sit on the hillside behind, quiet and stone-built
  • Sandy bays run east from the harbour, broken by low rock
  • Two large waterparks are minutes from the strip
  • The Minoan palace at Malia is a short drive east
Drop-off in Chersonissos

We drop you at the door of your hotel, apartment or villa, on the seafront or up in the hillside villages.

The strip is one-way in places and closed to traffic at its busiest in high season. Where that applies, the driver uses the nearest hotel entrance the vehicle can reach rather than leaving you to walk the last stretch with luggage.

Route

The drive from Chania Airport to Chersonissos

This is a cross-island run, and worth understanding before you book. Chersonissos sits on the eastern side of Crete; Chania Airport is at the far west. The transfer crosses roughly two thirds of the island's length on a single road.

The drive comes down off Akrotiri, joins the VOAK east of Chania, and then stays on it for two solid hours. It passes above Souda Bay, climbs inland behind Kalyves, returns to the coast at Georgioupolis, and runs on through Rethymno at roughly the halfway point. East of Rethymno the road threads the headlands at Panormo, Bali and Fodele, where the sea is below on the left for long stretches and there is little development at all.

Heraklion is the transition. The road skirts the city on the bypass, and from there the character changes completely: the empty middle of the island gives way to the built-up eastern resort coast. Gouves and Anissaras pass in a few minutes and Chersonissos is the next exit.

About 2 hours 26 minutes is the normal figure. Drivers will stop at Rethymno or Bali if you want a break, and on a run of this length most passengers take one.

How else could you make this trip?

The KTEL intercity coach runs Chania to Heraklion, then a second service covers Heraklion to Chersonissos. Total journey time is around four hours with the change, plus getting from the airport to Chania bus station at the start.

There is also a question worth asking before you travel: Heraklion Airport is 27.9 kilometres from Chersonissos against 171 from Chania. If your flights are not yet booked, arriving east saves more than two hours in each direction and a substantial part of the fare.

Going home

Chersonissos to Chania Airport: departure transfers

The return leg is the same journey in reverse: 171.0 km (106.3 mi), about 2 hr 26 min, and the same fixed fare from €225 per vehicle. Your driver collects you from your accommodation in Chersonissos at the agreed time and takes you straight to Chania Airport.

Chersonissos back to Chania Airport is the same 171 kilometres in reverse, at the same fixed fare.

On a return of this length the airport check-in time is a smaller factor than the drive, and the climb back up to Akrotiri comes right at the end, when a delay is least recoverable. Departure pickups are set early enough to absorb it.

Book both directions together and the return is held at the same fare. Switch the form at the top of this page to Departure, or select a return when you book.

When should the pickup be?

For a departure from Chersonissos we work back from your flight: about 2 hours 26 minutes of driving, plus the check-in and security time your airline asks for, plus a buffer for the Heraklion bypass and the Akrotiri climb.

On a cross-island run the buffer is the part that matters. Give us the flight number at booking and the exact pickup time is confirmed on your voucher.
