Airport pickup

Your pickup at Heraklion Airport

Your driver meets you inside the arrivals hall at Heraklion Airport, holding a sign with your name on it. Your transfer starts there rather than at a taxi rank, so there is no queue to join and no fare to agree on the spot.

Heraklion International Airport (HER) is Crete's main gateway and handled 4,039,249 international arrivals in 2025. Heraklion International Airport concentrates its arrivals into one short terminal, which keeps the walk from baggage reclaim to the meeting area brief even at peak season.

The driver confirms your name and destination, loads your luggage, and leaves from the airport car park. Nothing is settled on the day when you have paid online, and the fare on your voucher does not change.

The airport sits on the coast road immediately east of Heraklion city, which puts every eastern resort on a direct run without crossing town. Westbound journeys join the same national road in the opposite direction.

Where we meet you

Inside the arrivals hall, past baggage reclaim, at the transfers meeting area. Your driver holds a name sign that matches the booking.

Look for the sign rather than a taxi rank or a car park level. The phone number on your voucher reaches a person who can locate your driver, if the sign is not where you expect it.

Flight delays and waiting time

Give us your flight number at booking. Your pickup is then scheduled against that flight rather than against a clock time, and the driver is told to arrive later when the flight lands late.

Tell us as early as you can when a flight is cancelled or rerouted, so the driver can be reassigned.

Lassithi

Arriving in Sissi

Sissi is a small fishing village on the north coast of Lassithi, set around a narrow natural inlet between Malia and Milatos. Sissi kept its harbour rather than replacing it, so the centre is still a line of tavernas along the water with the boats tied up below the tables.

The village is deliberately quieter than the resorts west of it. Development here is low-rise and spread along the shore, the beaches are small coves rather than one long strip, and there is no nightlife district of the kind Malia is known for.

Sissi works for people who want the north coast without the crowds, and it stays within easy reach of them: the Lassithi plateau climbs inland from here, and Agios Nikolaos lies further east along the same road.

Good to know about Sissi
  • Natural harbour inlet, with tavernas built along its edge
  • Small sand and shingle coves rather than one long beach
  • Milatos, an even quieter village with its cave, a short drive east
  • Malia and its Minoan palace, a few minutes west on the same road
  • Low-rise development, with no nightlife strip
Drop-off in Sissi

We drop you at the door of your hotel, apartment or villa, in the village or in the small developments spread along the coast either side of it.

The lanes down to the harbour are narrow and some end at the water. Your driver uses the nearest point a car can turn and confirms it with you before the day.

Route

The drive from Heraklion Airport to Sissi

The drive runs east on the national road for 40.6 kilometres and takes about 33 minutes. Sissi is the first place east of the resort strip, so the journey is really two halves: the busy coast as far as Malia, then open road.

The first half passes the turnings for Gouves, Anissaras, Chersonissos and Stalida in sequence, all of them signposted down towards the sea. This is the section that carries the island's heaviest holiday traffic, and a mid-afternoon arrival in August is where the 33 minutes stretches.

Malia is the marker. Once past it the development stops abruptly, the road pulls slightly inland, and the last 8 kilometres to the Sissi turning run through farmland rather than resorts. Milatos is signposted a little further on, 4 kilometres beyond Sissi.

The final approach drops from the main road down to the inlet. Sissi is built around a narrow natural harbour and the lanes near the water are tight, so the last part of the drive is slow by design rather than by traffic.

How else could you make this trip?

The KTEL coastal bus between Heraklion and Agios Nikolaos passes the Sissi turning and will set you down on the main road.

That leaves a walk of roughly a kilometre downhill into the village, and the same walk back uphill on the way out. The bus also starts from Heraklion's bus station rather than the airport, so a public trip means reaching the city first with your luggage.

Going home

Sissi to Heraklion Airport: departure transfers

The return leg is the same journey in reverse: 40.6 km (25.2 mi), about 33 min, and the same fixed fare from €50 per vehicle. Your driver collects you from your accommodation in Sissi at the agreed time and takes you straight to Heraklion Airport.

Sissi back to Heraklion Airport is the same 40.6 kilometres in reverse, at the same fixed fare.

Westbound traffic through Malia and Chersonissos builds from mid-morning, so departure pickups allow for the resort strip rather than for the empty road that starts at the Sissi turning.

Book both directions together and the return is held at the same fare. Switch the form at the top of this page to Departure, or select a return when you book.

When should the pickup be?

For a departure from Sissi we work back from your flight: about 33 minutes of driving, plus the check-in and security time your airline asks for, plus a buffer for the resort strip.

Give us the flight number at booking and the exact pickup time is confirmed on your voucher.

What you get

Why book this transfer with Best Crete Transfer

Meet and greet by name

Your driver waits in the arrivals hall holding a sign with your name on it. You walk out of baggage reclaim straight to the car, without joining a taxi rank or agreeing a fare on the spot.

Child and booster seats included

Child seats cost nothing extra. Reserve the seat in the booking form and state the child's age, so the correct seat is fitted before the driver sets off.

Free cancellation

Cancel at least 24 hours before your pickup time and you pay nothing. Plans change; the booking does not lock you in.

Direct door-to-door routing

The vehicle carries your party and nobody else. It runs from the pickup point to your exact address, with no intermediate stops and no waiting for other passengers.

Flight-timed pickups, 24 hours a day

Your pickup is set against your flight number, not a clock time. Transfers run at any hour, which covers night landings and pre-dawn departures.

Every booking is confirmed by a person and carries a voucher showing your route, vehicle, pickup time and fare.
